Ideal Job:

After looking on seek.com.au, I found a junior position as a front-end web developer at AdTorque Edge, Melbourne. You can find the advertisement here, or you can access and download a .pdf version here.

The job itself is a role primarily surrounded around designing a visibly pleasing website, with maximum functionality and readability. You’re also expected to work collaboratively with the client, and constantly refine and improve the efficiency of the website. I’ve always found web design to be a particularly interesting field within IT; I like the idea of making things aesthetically pleasing while simultaneously being straight-forward and accessible to all.

The requirements for this role are extensive, but at a minimum the following technical experience is expected:

My skills currently are very basic in the terms of IT and Programming. In 2020 however, I completed a Certification III in Print Communications, which at a minimum taught me how to effectively edit and store photos with appropriate naming conventions, as well as how to efficiently communicate with clients and help achieve their goals. It was also hyper focused on how to keep a record of everything you do, such as version control of image edits, provider and client rapport, effective file transfers etc.

My plan to gain all the required skills is fairly simple. I’m starting with the completion of a Bachelor of IT through RMIT, then whichever holes need to be filled, I will go and gain the certificates needed to have a fully rounded resume. This could include some short courses around WordPress or Joomla, SEO, or UX and UI design.
